Torn between the meaty flavor of crab and the semisweet taste of shrimp? With crawfish, you don’t have to choose.

Described as having a taste that combines the meatiness of crab and the sweet-salty flavor of shrimp, crawfish come as one of the most favored seafood dishes in the world.

Not only are they easy to prepare and tasty to the tongue, but they also offer high-quality protein and are low in calories.

Given these features, it’s not surprising that the dish is served on so many occasions.

If you’re fond of this seafood as well, knowing how to reheat crawfish can help you to enjoy the food even further.

Here, we have prepared a brief guide that will show you how to reheat crawfish in case you prepared too many and decided to put the excess in the fridge.

What Is Crawfish?

First things first, it’s important to define what crawfish is. Doing so will help us understand how to deal with the dish better.

Specifically, crawfish refers to freshwater crustaceans that are somewhat similar in appearance to lobsters.

However, compared to the latter, crawfish are relatively smaller in stature, typically only 3 to 6 inches long. They are found in freshwater lakes and streams, and their presence often suggests clean water.

Crawfish

As a dish, they are often described as having a taste that resembles crab and shrimp. However, compared to crabs, crawfish are relatively meatier, and they are less salty and a bit sweeter than shrimp.

Generally, their claws, legs, and tails are categorized in the same flavor group. However, each part does have its own distinct taste and features.

Claws, for instance, are generally mild in flavor. Legs, on the other hand, contain less meat, so they have a bit less flavor. Meanwhile, tails are described as subtly sweet and are chewier.

To date, the most common way to cook crawfish is by boiling them.

To do so, you’ll only need to boil a pot of water, put your crawfish in a cooking basket, and submerge them in the boiling pot.

Cooking takes about 15 minutes. Once the time’s up, turn off the heat and let the food sit for another 15 minutes. You can then cool them off for a bit and then enjoy them!

How to Store Crawfish

In case you’ve made the mistake of preparing too many crawfish, you can simply store the leftover ones in your freezer.

To do so, you’ll first need to place them in airtight containers. Once done, freeze them as quickly as you can.

Remember that cooked crawfish are highly perishable, so it’s best to put them in the freezer as fast as possible.

  • Step 6: After the 5 minutes is up, check to see if the crawfish are hot enough. If not, steam them again for 45 seconds until they reach your desired heat level.
  • Step 7: Put them on a plate and enjoy!
